National Farm Animals Day

April 10 All day

National Farm Animals Day is observed every year on April 10 to promote the humane care, welfare, and protection of farm animals. The day was founded in 2005 by author and animal advocate Colleen Paige to raise awareness about the treatment of livestock and to encourage improvements in living conditions for animals raised for food and agriculture.

History & Purpose

National Farm Animals Day was established to shine a light on the realities faced by many farm animals and to advocate for compassionate and ethical treatment. The day calls attention to the importance of responsible farming practices and supports efforts to protect animals from neglect, abuse, and inhumane conditions.

Beyond awareness, the observance encourages communities to support animal sanctuaries, promote higher welfare standards, and explore sustainable food choices.

Farm animals play a vital role in global food systems and rural livelihoods. However, concerns about overcrowding, industrial farming practices, and animal welfare have led to increased advocacy for reform.

National Farm Animals Day promotes:

  • Humane and ethical livestock treatment
  • Improved living conditions and welfare standards
  • Greater consumer awareness about food sourcing
  • Support for rescued and abandoned farm animals
