National Day of Prayer

May 7 All day

The National Day of Prayer is an annual United States observance held every first Thursday of May. In 2026, it falls on May 7, uniting millions across the nation in prayer, faith, and hope. Established by Congress in 1952 and signed into law by Harry S. Truman, this sacred observance calls people of all faiths to pray for the nation. Each year, the President issues a proclamation encouraging Americans to seek guidance, wisdom, and unity through prayer.
“Glorify God Among the Nations – Seeking Him in All Generations”
(1 Chronicles 16:24), is promoted by the National Day of Prayer Task Force and reflects a powerful message of faith across generations. Rooted in American tradition since 1775 and permanently set to the first Thursday of May in 1988, this day mobilizes over 56,000 local, state, and national gatherings across the country.
