World Health Day

April 7 All day

World Health Day is observed every year on April 7th to mark the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. The World Health Organization was established in the aftermath of World War II with a clear mission: to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve the vulnerable. Since its creation, WHO has led global efforts to combat infectious diseases, strengthen health systems, expand universal health coverage, and respond to health emergencies.

World Health Day was created to honor this milestone and to spotlight critical global health challenges that require urgent attention.

Each year, a specific theme highlights an urgent global priority. The 2025 – 2026 theme, “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” focuses on improving maternal and newborn health. It calls for stronger investments in healthcare systems, better support for health professionals, and expanded access to essential services that ensure mothers and babies survive and thrive.

Despite medical progress, billions of people worldwide still lack full access to essential health services. Preventable maternal and newborn deaths remain a significant challenge in many regions.

World Health Day reminds us that health is not a privilege. It is a fundamental human right. By investing in healthy beginnings, we create stronger families, resilient communities, and more hopeful futures for generations to come.
